$90

Saturdays from 12:30-1:30pm January 4th, 11th, and 18th

Join Physical Therapist Chris Hebeler, for a practical workshop that blends Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) and Yoga to reduce and prevent neck pain. In this workshop, you will learn different breathing techniques, exercises, and how to apply these principles to improve your movement patterns, relieve strain, and protect your neck and shoulders over time.

Through guided DNS and Yoga sequences, you’ll gain tools you can practice anywhere to ease tension and support neck health. Leave with a better understanding of your body’s mechanics and a refreshed approach to caring for your neck, especially valuable for yoga practitioners and anyone dealing with neck or shoulder discomfort.

DNS, or Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, uses developmental kinesiology and neurodevelopmental principles to evaluate and treat a wide range of orthopedic and sport related conditions. DNS emphasizes restoring ideal breathing patterns and function of the deep spinal and shoulder girdle stabilization systems to create quality joint mechanics through movement and to avoid overloading of joint structures. Its foundations parallel traditional Yoga asana and the natural progression of a physical practice.

Healthy Heart, Happy Heart: Yoga for Stress Management with Lisa Segar, Yoga Therapist

Healthy Heart, Happy Heart: Yoga for Stress Management with Lisa Segar, Yoga Therapist

$360

Mondays at 5:30-6:45pm | January 6th - March 24th

The overall average reported level of stress among adults surveyed in 2024 was 5 out of 10. Managing stress can help control or reduce the risk of developing chronic conditions like high blood pressure, heart disease, anxiety, and digestive disorders. Stress reduction can also improve mental health and reduce anxiety. Reducing stress can improve your quality of life and help you feel more resilient, improve your relationships, and improve your focus and self-control.

In this 12-week health and education program we will use the practices of Yoga to support your health and well-being. Each week you will be introduced to a new theme to support your health journey. Together we will explore health not just as a healthy physical state, but also as a healthy mental state and as social well-being. This view connects with the philosophy of Yoga where health is understood to be an integration of body, mind and spirit. Yoga is both a philosophy and methodology for cultivating this integrated health, or sense of wholeness.

Over the 12 weeks participants will have the opportunity to support their health in various ways. Past participants have noticed improvements such as: lower blood pressure, lower blood sugar levels, reduced muscle pain and tension, reduced joint pain and inflammation, reduced back pain and improved balance, improved digestion and elimination, more peace and positivity, reduced stress, relief from symptoms of anxiety and depression, improved sleep, and an overall improved quality of life.

Each session will build upon the previous week. Sessions will include: introduction of the week’s theme, body awareness, mudra, affirmation and breath work to support the theme, gentle chair Yoga (with the opportunity to progress to standing postures in later weeks), deep relaxation and meditation. There will also be time for partner and group sharing. Each week participants will receive a short video to support their home practice.

Participants will be asked to participate in a pre and post blood pressure reading. There will also be a pre and post general health assessment. This information will be kept confidential, but is essential to evaluate the on-going benefits of this program.

This is an all level offering and you do not need previous Yoga experience to participate.

December Kundalini Series with Ann Campbell

  • Google Calendar ICS

Thursday Mornings at 10am: December 5th, 12th, 19th

Kundalini Yoga is known as the yoga of awareness. It is an ancient healing practice to awaken and connect with the divine energy within, so you can achieve a life of lightness, joy and boundless love. It’s designed to bring your focus inward to align with the truest highest expression of yourself.  As you go on this journey within, you begin to see through emotional debris— to see what thought patterns need to be released— what’s holding you back from your full potential. Kundalini Yoga uses physical postures, breathing techniques (pranayama) meditation, and mantra/chanting to help rewire the brain and break through energetic blocks.

Kundalini is often represented by the snake. The snake represents healing and transformation, literally shedding its old skin in order to grow.

No prior yoga experience required. Class passes can be used or drop-in rates apply.

November Kundalini Series with Ann Campbell

  • Google Calendar ICS

Thursday Mornings at 10am: November 7th, 14th, 21st

Yoga for Reversing Rounded Shoulders and Upper Back with Brooke Margherone

$40

In our forward thinking society, it’s very common today to develop rounded shoulders, roundness through your middle back, collapsed chest, tightness between the ribs, and tension in the upper back, but it’s not normal, nor will it support the longevity of your body and overall health.

These issue could arise due to your profession, lifestyle, carrying your children around, or from stress over time. No matter the reason, if you’re experience any of the issues above, this workshop will teach you how to find relief and return to the natural neutral placement of the head, neck, shoulders, and spine.

A variety of postures will be explored to encourage full range of motion of the shoulder girdle and stabilize the shoulder blades. The benefits of these postures include increasing range of motion in the shoulder girdle allowing the body to remember the innate shoulder girdle placement, better posture and blood flow in the upper body, head and neck, improved breathing, decrease tension within the rib cage, stronger back muscles, opened chest, neck, and relaxed throat and face.

The breakdown of yoga postures with the specific movement principles for shoulder health will be practiced together in detail allowing for questions and modifications unique for the group. Each attendee will leave with the sequence and the modifications right for them so they can go on to practice on their own with confidence and continue to improve the health and alignment in the upper body.

All levels welcomed and encouraged to attend. No prior experience necessary.

Navigating Sciatica: Strategies for Relief with Physical Therapist, Chris Hebeler

Navigating Sciatica: Strategies for Relief with Physical Therapist, Chris Hebeler

Tuesdays: June 4th and June 11th 4:45-5:45pm

$45

If you've ever suffered from sciatica, you're familiar with the relentless numbness, tingling, and burning that can radiate down one or both legs. These disruptive symptoms stem from compression of the sciatic nerve—a lengthy nerve that journeys from the spinal canal, weaves through the buttocks, and extends to the foot.

Sciatica's prevalence doesn't make it any less complex to address. Pinpointing the precise location of nerve compression is crucial, as it could result from a spinal condition like a herniated disc or from within the muscles of the hip and leg. Understanding the underlying "why" behind the compression is equally vital.

Navigating these challenges requires expertise and insight, which is where our workshop, "Navigating Sciatica: Strategies for Relief", comes into play. Led by Chris Hebeler, a local physical therapist with 15 years of experience in orthopedic conditions, this workshop is designed to illuminate the path to understanding and alleviating sciatica.

Session One: Foundations of Sciatica

  • Explore the anatomy and biomechanics of the spine, hip, and leg in relation to sciatica.

  • Learn techniques to identify the root of nerve compression.

  • Begin adopting treatment strategies to lessen symptom severity.

Session Two: Advanced Relief Techniques

  • Advance into strategies to not only alleviate but also prevent the return of sciatica.

  • Engage in a Question and Answer segment to address your specific concerns.

Whether you're grappling with sciatica or simply want to arm yourself with knowledge to avoid future issues, this workshop offers invaluable resources. Join us to empower yourself with strategies to decrease—and potentially eliminate—the causes of your sciatica.

Intention is...

  • an aim,

  • a person's design,

  • and, in medicine, the healing process of a wound.

Manifest your intentions—join in the creation of a collective chi field as we stimulate our energy systems through ancient movements and practices. Each class includes

  • guidance on creating clear, high vibrational intentions,

  • practices that prepare and clear your energy field to make space for change,

  • and group chi circle to focus these intentions, creating shifts for you, others in the circle, and the planet.

Bring your desire and a journal to track your intentions and the shifts you create through this powerful practice.

As an Eden Energy Medicine (EEM) Advanced Practitioner, Cathleen works with the body's nine energy systems (e.g.,meridians, chakras, aura) to bring balance to the mind, body, and spirit. She works with all forms of vibrational medicine, honoring and exploring ancient practices as she empowers others to live in their purpose and connect to their inner light. Yoga Life's 40 Early Mornings Challenge 2024
Jan
1
to Feb 9

Yoga Life's 40 Early Mornings Challenge 2024

Join your Yoga Life community in yoga asana, pranayama, chanting, affirmations, and meditation for the first 40 days of 2024. Whether you’re looking to discover aspects of yourself that were previously unknown or are purposefully stepping into a whole new era, these first 40 days of 2024 set the stage for a full rebirthing of you.

This year, we were inspired by the quote from Rumi,

“A new moon teaches gradualness

and deliberation and how one gives birth

to oneself slowly. Patience with small details

makes perfect a large work, like the universe.

What nine months of attention does for an embryo

forty early mornings will do

for your gradually growing wholeness.”

Rules for entry into the drawing to win:

  1. Commit to 40 days of practice with Yoga Life.

  2. Attend 30 in-person or live streamed virtual classes at Yoga Life between January 1 and February 9, 2024. These can be any classes on our weekly schedule.

  3. Daily, throughout the challenge, utilize the pre-recorded breath work, meditation, and chanting practices (around 5-10 minutes each and are FREE). We do recommend the breath work and/or chanting practices to be practiced early in the morning, when your mind and the world are still quiet. This will set the tone for your day and help you move forward with awareness. On the days you are unable to practice with us, definitely utilize these pre-recorded videos.

If you wish to join us, email support@yogalifemichigan.com stating “I’m in!” and we will send you your own class tracker, the calendar to follow along each day for these 40 days, and a “how to” video to help you prepare.

We encourage each of you to commit to 40 early mornings. To carve out a small amount of time and start your day with intention. Your entire year could benefit from these first 40 days and you using these practices to reflect and deepen your relationship with yourself.

Upon completion of the challenge, take a picture of your completed tracker and email to Support@YogaLifeMichigan.com by February 10th, 2024. All completed entries will enter the drawing. Drawing will take place February 11th, 2024. Winner will be notified via email and announced on Instagram February 11th, 2024.

1st place winner: 3-Month Unlimited Pass
2nd place winner: Manduka Pro Mat
3rd place winner: Yoga Life Swag Bag
