Part I Somatics Workshop with Cheryl Meadors is a pre-requiste for Part II in January.
Do you have back pain that can’t be explained by an MRI? Do you have muscles that always feel ‘tight’? Can you stand up straight without fatigue? Do you carry stress in your body? Are you looking for a sustainable way to relax muscle pain?
The Somatic Nervous System (SNS) controls all the voluntary muscle movements of the body. Unlike the Autonomic Nervous System that controls the body’s vital functions (digestion, circulation, respiration,…), the Somatic Nervous System learns and adjusts based on habituated patterns of muscle use caused by stress, injury, and trauma.
Sensory Motor Amnesia (SMA) – This can be experienced as muscles not engaging, muscles not relaxing or both. In this Workshop (Part 1 of 2), we will cover the first 4 lessons on how to move, release then totally relax the muscles of the pelvis, back body, front body and side body.
The pace of Somatic exercises is very slow and mindful so you can perceive the changes you will be creating to the SNS. The entire class is conducted on the floor. Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. All levels are welcome!
It is recommended that you purchase a copy of the book Somatics: Reawakening the mind’s control of movement, flexibility and health by Thomas Hanna. You can find this book on Amazon and it will be your reference for continuing to practice the exercises after the workshop.
